DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

• The Department was start before 1997 to teach the “Vocation Computer Subject” of B.Com course and Introduce “Computer Sc and Application” as a subject for Higher Secondary at that time.
• Initially the department was start with 6 computers. Now the department has a multiuser system (1 Server + 60 Terminals), 7 standalone desktop PCs setup and  accesses common digital class room, three smart board class rooms and many class rooms equipped with projector facility.
• Since then the department has been dealing different computer related papers of degree and M.Com (DU) courses under non CBCS and CBCS.
• In past, the department also runs BCA courses under Dibrugarh University, IGNOU and KKHSOU.
• Presently the department deals different papers under  B.Com, B.A., and M.Com & HS with 3 months computer application certificate add-on course.
• Present faculty strength of the department as: Two faculties and one lab assistant.

Our vision is to provide best learning experience in IT field to our students and thereby facilitating students in the achievement of career and professional goals.

MISSION:

The Department of Computer Sc of Golaghat Commerce College strives to develop an environment to create interest and importance of IT knowledge among the students of this college for making capable them to make carrier in different domains of IT sector and prepare them IT entrepreneurs.

BEST PRATICES:

1. Classes are taken both in Theory and Practical modes.
2. Before start of each course in a session a WhatsApp group is created with all students of the course and all faculties of computer department to make effective communication with the students such as course progress status, some time study materials (PDF, Video, YouTube link, and website link) and any urgent notice. Student can also place doubt related query etc.
3. More stress is given to using digital class room, smart board class room and class rooms equipped with projector facility for providing modern approach teaching facilities to help student and grow interest to learn in effective way.
4. Helps students to access Internet using departmental resources.
5. Every year preparing Computer department’s Wall magazine with the name “IT Mirror” by the interested students of the college is an exciting task and enjoy finishing it by the student with their creative ideas and contents of different IT aspects.  It allows the students to inculcate various ideas and express their views and opinions with regards to various aspects.
6. The Computer department recently start to prepare departmental electronic magazine named  ”eIT Mirror” and main focus to publish IT related facts with other issues.

DEPARTMENTAL ADD-ON COURSE:

The Computer Department conducting a Computer Application Certificate course for the students of the college and have a planning to offer computer related course for outsider in future.

• Nature of the course: To create Computer skill among the candidate of the course and thereby make the candidate to adopt in Computer related job or start their own data entry business.
