SEXUAL HARASSMENT AGAINST WOMEN COMMITTEE (SHAWC)

The Supreme Court of India hasassimilatedfundamental principles of human rights manifested in the Constitution of India wherein sexual harassment is considered as a violation of a woman’s fundamental right to equality, which is guaranteed by Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution. The prevalent patriarchy, existing power structures and dynamics of sexual harassment that are visible everywhere nowadays are seen to manifest themselves in educational institutions too. Thereby, according to UGC directives, sexual harassment against women committees in higher educational institutions can play a critical role in generating awareness of sexual harassment andfoster a more positiveenvironment in the higher educational institutions.

Golaghat Commerce College aims touphold Women’s Right to Protection against Sexual Harassment and for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassmentof women.

The committee:

  • aims to develop a mechanism for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment cases in the college premises.
  • aims at monitoring and eliminating acts of gender-based violence in the college.
  • aims to conduct awareness programmes among the staff and students, especially among the female students at regular intervals.
