ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Commercial Law, Golaghat Commerce College has its origin since inception of the college in 1972. In order to teach Mercantile Law in Degree Classes of Commerce Mr. Dilip Kumar Dutta, advocate of Golaghat Court was appointed as the lecturer of the department. After that Sri C. K. Gogoi, came to this department in 1979. In 1988, Dr. Dilip Kumar Chetia was appointed as lecturer in this department. The department which was working with two teachers became a single man department after retirement of Sri C. K Gogoi in 1997.

Ms. Reema Baruah joined the department in July, 2013 when Dr. Dilip Kumar Chetia was appointed as Principal i/c in July, 2013 and he retired on 30-11-2016.

Mr. Harmeet Singh joined the department as Assistant Professorin March, 2020 against the vacant post of Dr. Dilip Kumar Chetia.

MISSION:

The Department of Commercial Law of Golaghat Commerce College strives to develop a habit of legal learning among commerce students for their protection, safety and fair dealing in business transactions. The department takes every effort to introduce the new developments in legal framework in business. The Department focuses on overall development of students i.e., personality development; values enrichment; sense of social responsibility, justice and wisdom.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To deliver the basic idea regarding the framework of Indian Business and Corporate Laws.
  • To acquaint the students with case studies related to Business and Corporate Laws.
  • To equip the students with legal knowledgefor business endeavors in future.
  • To aware studentsregarding practical legal aspects of Business and Companies.

BEST PRATICES:

  1. All classes are taken by faculty of the department using ICT tools. The study material in the form of PPTs and PDFs is also shared with the students through WhatsApp group.
  2. Reema Baruah has a YouTube channel where videos are uploaded relating to the course syllabus.
  3. As a part of the continuous evaluation process students are given assignments relating to real world scenarios such a preparation of Partnership Deed, Drafting of Memorandum of Association of Companies, Studying Annual Reports of Companies and Role Plays of Company Meetings.

TEACHERS’ PARTICIPATION IN MENTORING THE STUDENTS:

All the faculty members of the department have given a group for mentoring the students. The students can contact to their respective mentors whenever and wherever they face any problem regarding academic as well as non- academic matters.
