DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY

The Department of Accountancy launched its journey in 1972 i.e., from the establishment of the college under the visionary leadership of Late PunaramNeog, the Founder Principal of the college. The course began under the able guidance of the founder faculty members Dr. Padma LuchanBhuyan who took charge as the Head of the Department and Dr. Bibeka Nanda Sarmah.  It is one of the premier departments of the college. It obtained approval for introducing Accountancy as Honours subject from the very beginning. The department’s objective in Commerce education is not only to promote Commerce but also to provide the right kind of work ethics, professional expertise and leadership in all spheres of life. The department of Accountancy creates a stimulating environment for the academic growth of its students.

In the later period Dr. Bibeka Nanda Sarmah was shifted to the different department. With a view to facilitating teaching major in Accountancy as well as pass courses Mr. Anil Chetia and Dr. Dilip Kr. Chetia was appointed as the lecturers in the department. After rendering services in the department for few years Mr. Anil Chetia had left from his job and Dr. Dilip kr. Chetia was shifted to the Department of Law. At that time Mr. Sarat Chandra Sarma was appointed as the lecturer in the department followed by Mr. PareshSaikia and Dr. ProdipBorthakur. After joining as Principal by Dr. Padma LuchanBhuyan, Mr. Sarat Chandra Sarma took the responsibility of Head of the Department. Later Dr. PranjalPratimDutta, Mr. SasankaSaikia and Miss Sonashree Das were appointed in the Department. After retirement of Mr. Sarat Chandra Sarma, Mr. PareshSaikia took the responsibility as Head of the department. In the year 2021, Mr. Paresh Saikia who was rendering his service as the Vice Principal of the college retired from the service followed by Dr. ProdipBorthakurwho retired in the year 2022 and served the last month of his service period as the Vice Principal. At present the department operates under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Dr. Pranjal Pratim Dutta, Head of the department and the co-operation of the other faculty members Mr. SasankaSaikia and Ms. Sonashree Das.

Vision– Our vision is to provide exceptional learning experience in accounting, finance and research to our students and thereby facilitating students in the achievement of career and professional goals.

Mission– The mission of the department is to educate students in accounting and financial theory and practice along with promoting research culture and supporting the students to become lifelong learners.

The Department renders its services in teaching aspect by taking the responsibility of teaching accounting and finance related papers and subjects in Higher Secondary, B. Com, M. Com (Regular) and Tea Management Courses. The Department aims to provide quality education and knowledge to the students and contribute towards their social and intellectual upliftment. The Department had adopted the method of mentoring as one of its practices to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campus as and when required. Besides this, the Department adopts various teaching learning tools like Project works, Case study, Assignments and Seminar to prepare the students in such a way so that they can keep pace with the current employment scenario and competition and can develop themselves in various fields. Consequently, students get through the final examination with flying colours every year and go for further higher studies and absorb themselves in various business and profession and establish themselves as Alumni of the department who work for the welfare and development of the society.

Some of the best practices of the department includes-

  1. Wall Magazine– Preparation of Wall magazine is one of the best practices adopted by the department. Every year the students of Accounting and Finance group are required to prepare a wall magazine where they are adequately guided and supported by the faculty members. Financial assistance is provided for the same by the department. It allows the students to inculcate various ideas and express their views and opinions with regards to various aspects.
  2. Department Journal– The department publishes a journal “Transaction” each year where the students and teachers contributed their writings to express their views and ideas.
  3. Departmental library– The department has a library which contains about 200 books which can be availed by the students and faculty members as and when required. This facility had enabled many economically backward students to carry on their studies smoothly.

Apart from the above the Department conducts various programs like Seminar, Webinarand other events from time to time to expand the knowledge of Accounting and Finance among all the stakeholders of the college.

We publish a Departmental Bulletin named TRANSACTION and a Wall Magazine named EPISTEME.
