The Golaghat commerce college was established on 9thOctober, 1972 and since then the Department of Commerce has been playing a vital role in the academic pursuits of the college. Initially all subjects relating to commerce stream was under the Commerce Department.  In 1979, four new Departments – Accountancy, Management, Banking and Mathematics & Statistics were opened. Subjects like Salesmanship, Insurance, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Small Business Management etc. which were not directly connected with the new departments were allottedto the Commerce Department by the college management.The Department has 3 sanctioned/permanent teaching posts.

  • To make commerce education more practical oriented.
  • Create entrepreneurial mind with both theoretical and practical knowledge of business.
  • Build attitudes of self-reliance and contributors among the learners.

  • Organize Entrepreneurship Development Program focusing on existing/potential entrepreneurs from rural areas of Golaghat District.
  • Arrangement of Motivational Lecture for Commerce students by Successful Entrepreneurs and professionals of the state.
  • Organize special classes for students of M.com. to guide them in clearing NET/SLET.
  • Add on course on “Investing in stock market” (started from November 2022).

  • Organizing Entrepreneurship Development Programme especially in rural areas of Golaghat District..
  • Conducting field Study for B.Com Final Semester students in different Industrial Units of the State.
  • Arrangement of Motivational Lecture for Commerce students by Successful Entrepreneurs and professionals of the state.

Departmental Book Bank: Apart from the general library the department can also boast of its own library with selected reference books and magazines, periodicals, etc.

Question Bank: Previous Years question papers, model question papers are available for students.

Other academic assistance: The department develops study materials for the students and they are distributed among them to facilitate teaching process. Faculties of the Department take some extra classes whenever needed for students to discuss the practical issues in Business and Entrepreneurship Development.

Desktop & Printer: The department is equipped with a desktop and a printer for departmental requirements.
