About the Department:
Department of Banking of Golaghat Commerce College was established in the year 1972. Itis one of the major/ specialty programme offering departments of the college. This department has been offering Major/ Specialty courses inBanking & Insurance in undergraduate (B. Com) level and taking Post Graduate(M. Com) classes along withthe subject Finance (Previously Banking) in Higher Secondary level. Although the name of the department is Banking; but this department doesn’t only teach Banking & Insurance related papers, but the theory papers of Finance are also being taught. Apart from providing quality education, this department provides a platform for the students to enhance their communication skill, presentation skill and overall personality development through case study presentations, departmental seminar presentations etc.
There are threesanctioned posts in the Department. Presently Mr. Manash Pratim Sarmah is working as the Head of the Department and Miss Sangita Das is the other faculty member of the Department. The department has total 50 nos. of seat for major/ specialty papers of B. Com course under Dibrugarh University.

- National Webinar on ” Professionalism and Innovative Teaching Practices in Higher Education”
The Department of Banking and Commercial Law has conducted a National Webinar on Professionalism and Innovative Teaching Practices in Higher Education on 25th August 2020. Prof. PranjalBezorah of Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University and Prof. Debabrata Das, Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University were the resource person of the webinar. More than 100 participants from across the country participated in the webinar.

- Online Lecture Program on “Investment Awareness”
On 6th December, 2021; the department has conducted an Investment Awareness Programme among the students of the college. Prof. PranjalBezorah of Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University was the resource person of the programme. The programme was sponsored by Bombay Stock Exchange.
TEACHERS’ PARTICIPATION IN MENTORING THE STUDENTS:
All the faculty members of the department have given a group for mentoring the students. The students can contact to their respective mentors whenever and wherever they face any problem regarding academic as well as non- academic matters.
