DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

History

The department of Geography was established in 1^st September 1995 and Mrs. Neetima Sarmah,was the founder teacher who joined as lecturer on honourary basis on that particular day.During that time  LatePunaram Neog was the Principal of this college.  Geography was introduced as an additional subject for H.S students. Gradually, it was included as an optional subject for undergraduate course in 1998 . Mr. Surajit Mahanta was appointed as another lecturer and he continued  till 2005.In this way Mr Ranjan Bikash Chutia,Mr Debojit Boruah, Mr Mousum Hira serve as a lecturer to this department.In the year 2006 Mrs Sarmila Dutta Tamuly Join in this department.Major classes was introduced in the year 2010 by the honourable principal Dr Padmaluson Bhuyan.Mr Aftabor Rahman was appointed as a lecturer in 2011and in the same year Mrs Nomita Dutta was appointed as a bearer in this department.In the year 2016 Mr Ankur Bora Was appointed as a lecturer.Till now we have four teachers and one bearer. Among them two teachers are against sanction post and two teachers and one bearer are agaist non- sanction post.In the year 2017 Mr Bidyut Sarma able to secured

1^st class first position in 6^th  sem final examination and awarded gold medal by the North East India Geographical Society in the presence of member of International Geographical Union on 10^th February 2018. Average result of the department is good enough.

About department :

The Department of geography was established in 1^st September 1995 as an additional subject for H.S. students. Gradually, undergraduate courses were introduced in 1998. After introducing major courses the number of students increased and average results of this department is good enough.

Main areas of academic thrust :

Agricultural Geography, Environmental Geography, Indian Geography,Population Geography, Regional Development and planning, Social and cultural Geography, Urban Geography, Settlement Geography, Resource and Management Geography and World Geography.

VISION :

1. To established our department among the top echelons of the state.
2. To eternalise the legacy as illustrious conservator of Geography.
3. To elevate the department as integrated research Center.

MISSION :

1. To educate our students in geography and practical as well and promoting awareness towards society and fringes about declining environment.
2. The department aims to established a GIS laboratory.
3. The department is planning to publish it’s own half- yearly research journal..

FUTURE PLANS OF DEPARTMENT

1.To organize a national level seminar on disaster management collaborating with IQAC.

2. Continuing our significant campaign on Plastic Waste Management.

3. The department aims to establishing a GIS lab.
4. The department is planning to publish its own half yearly research journal.
