About us:
The Women’s Cell of Golaghat Commerce College was constituted as per UGC guidelines on 8th July, 2004 under the able chairmanship of Ms. Alpana Handique, the then Principal-in-charge of the college. Since its inception, Women’s Cell has accorded overriding priority on promoting gender parity and combating gender based discrimination in the college campus and beyond. The Women’s Cell of Golaghat Commerce College believes that a gender just campus can be built through continuous and sustained approaches focused on conversations on gender, awareness about rightsand facilitating institutional support to empower young people. Hence, the cell regularly organizes guest lectures, awareness programs, counselling programs, skill development workshops etc. which are directed at empowering and enabling women, particularly the female students, realize their potential.
Vision:
Golaghat Commerce College Women Cell aims at the advancement of women of the state of Assam in particular and women of the North-East in general. Various dimensions of women and children’s lives, such as status, education and training, gender differentials in employment, health and nutrition, environment, housing, human rights are the focus areas of its activities.
Mission:
- To work towards providing a safe and dignified environment for girls and women to facilitate their participation and success in higher education.
- To initiate discussions on deep rooted beliefs of gender bias and discrimination and promote gender-awareness within the college campus and beyond
- To spread awareness among students about social, legal and constitutional rights of women in order to prevent exploitation based on gender.
- To conduct seminars, lectures, workshops on gender issues by specialists and eminent personalities
- To impart skill based education to students through workshops and vocational courses
- To conduct research on women related issues of the North-East

The Principal of Golaghat Commerce College is the Advisor of the cell. The executive committee has a tenure of one year. In the present session, Women’s Cell has 35 members including teachers, library staff and non-teaching staff
